Renault had questions about the modification of Formula 1 engines in freezing conditions.


Manufacturers can`t work on power plant efficiency until 2026, but reliability-related changes are allowed. According to the chief minder of Renault Bruno Famin, the FIA should strictly enforce the rules.


I believe that in 2022 the FIA controlled the motors quite well. The work was transparent, everyone knew what requests the teams were sending - this is very cool.


The FIA showed enough tolerance, because, of course, everyone had problems with reliability, not just us. I think there were about 70 requests from manufacturers, because everyone faced difficulties. Now I expect that in the future the FIA will act more strictly.


The question is difficult. It is impossible to say whether a potential gain in efficiency is hidden behind the problem with reliability. The line is not always clear. If there is a problem with the water pump, as we have in 2022, then I think it is quite obvious that this is a reliability issue. Replacing the water pump does not improve efficiency. But if the material of the pistons needs to be changed, then more aggressive operating modes can be used - thus, an increase in productivity can be the goal. And where is the limit? It`s not so obvious, Famen said.
